Getting your Hands on a Sachs Moped
A moped is a two-wheeled motorized vehicle that is usually limited in its speed to about 30-35 mph. Mopeds were introduced in the 1950's by taking a bicycle and attaching a motor to the top of the front wheel. The definition of a moped is determined in part by its engine capacity. In the UK and Hawaii, a scooter or motorcycle is consider a "moped" if the vehicle's engine capacity is no greater than 50cc.
Sachs is one of the most well-known moped manufacturers as it is the oldest still existing motorcycle manufacturer worldwide (since 1886). It is a German manufacturer that produces motorcycles, mopeds, power-assisted bicycles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). It also serves as an importer for two-wheeled vehicles, including imports from Italy and Taiwan. Sachs' main site is www.sachs-bikes.de. Some of the Sachs mopeds on this site include: the Primas 4 and 5, Optima 50, and MadAss. Unfortunately, the available dealers listed on the site are limited to German dealers only. In efforts to expand, a Sachs-Bikes was opened in China in 2004.
